A salad that is drenched in dressing is high in unnecessary calories and becomes soggy quickly, because vinegar wilts lettuce and other greens. These unnecessary calories may have adverse effect in your health. It will increase your body cholesterol, which in turn boosts body weight. The ultimate result of shoot up in cholesterol level is heart attack. Thus overdressing of food is directly or indirectly related to our life. Use a very light sprinkling of oil to coat the greens and mix the other ingredients, such as raw vegetables or artichoke hearts with a small amount of vinegar, which may facilitate digestion. Then toss the two together just before serving, by doing so u may reduce the hazards due to overdressing of food. As general rule, 1 to 2 table spoon of dressing should be ample for four cups of salad greens, and one fourth cup of a mayonnaise type dressing should be enough for 4 cups of potato, tuna or chicken salad. Other important aspect in overdressing of food is its wastage. Most of the people will not prefer eating those things kept for garlanding the dish, thus we are spoiling those materials used for dressing our food too.
